A quick tip from Adrienne Shah, National Project Manager of Convergent
Project prioritization is a successful strategy deployed by all types of businesses for all kinds of projects. And it’s an effective way for businesses upgrading to a VoIP system to get a handle on their project, stay organized, and achieve goals in the right order. It gives you and your team an easy-to-follow plan for the work that needs to be done, while also setting clear expectations. Start with something small but impactful, like making a checklist that you can use to then prioritize based on value.
There are a myriad of decisions you’ll need to make before moving forward with your VoIP deployment. Here are a few questions you can ask to help decide which tasks are more important than others:
- How does this task align with my goals and objectives?
- If I don’t do this task now, will the result be any different than if I complete it later?
- If I accomplish this task, will it make any remaining tasks easier?
- If I could only complete one task today/this week/this month, what would it be, and why?
Discussing these questions with your team, stakeholders and deployment partner when you have your master checklist of tasks you need to complete will help you get the most important parts of your project up and running.
Project prioritization also goes a long way towards breaking bottlenecks. If a bottleneck occurs, refer back to your list of priorities and assess whether to move forward with the task or pause it and shift your focus elsewhere until the right time.
